Podiatry

Service Description

Podiatry

Foot discomfort can affect more than just how you walk. It can influence posture, balance and day-to-day comfort. Even mild symptoms can gradually begin to interfere with daily activities if left unaddressed.

Affidea’s podiatry service is designed to identify the cause of foot and lower limb concerns and support you with practical, targeted treatment.

Overview: What is podiatry?

Podiatry is concerned with the health of the feet and lower limbs. It includes the assessment and treatment of conditions affecting the skin, nails, joints and soft tissues, as well as how your feet function when you move.

The way your feet work can influence alignment across the body. Changes in walking pattern, pressure distribution or joint movement may contribute to discomfort not only in the feet, but also in the ankles, knees or hips.

Some issues develop gradually, such as thickened nails or hard skin. Others may relate to injury, underlying health conditions or changes in activity levels. Identifying the cause is an important first step in managing symptoms effectively.

At Affidea, podiatry combines clinical assessment with practical solutions that fit into your everyday routine.

What to expect during your podiatry appointment

Your appointment begins with a conversation about your symptoms, daily activities and any changes you have noticed. This helps build a clearer picture of how your feet are affecting your overall comfort and mobility.

Your podiatrist will then examine your feet and may assess how you stand or walk. This can highlight areas of pressure, imbalance or restricted movement.

Where appropriate, treatment may be provided during the same visit. This can include care for skin or nail concerns, along with advice to help reduce discomfort and prevent recurrence.

Our focus is on giving you straightforward, sustainable guidance that you can apply with confidence.

Podiatry treatments and services we offer

Our podiatry service supports foot health, comfort and mobility. We assess and treat a wide range of conditions, from everyday concerns such as nail problems and skin changes to more complex structural issues and pain.

General foot care

Management of common concerns such as hard skin, corns and calluses to improve comfort. Care may also include treatment for verrucas and other skin conditions affecting the soles of the feet.

Nail care

Treatment for thickened, damaged or ingrown toenails to support healthy nail growth and prevent complications. In more severe cases, minor procedures may be recommended to relieve pain and correct the problem.

Foot pain assessment

Evaluation of pain affecting the feet or lower limbs, including how movement and foot structure may be contributing. This can help identify conditions such as bunions, arthritis of the big toe, plantar fasciitis or Morton’s neuroma.

Targeted treatments such as cortisone injections may also be used to reduce inflammation and relieve pain in the foot or ankle.

Podiatric procedures and surgery

When symptoms don’t improve with conservative treatment, surgical procedures may be considered to relieve pain and improve function.

This may include:

  • Bunion correction surgery

  • Hammer toe correction

  • Morton’s neuroma surgery

  • Partial or complete removal of ingrown toenails

  • Removal of ganglion cysts

  • Toe amputation in more complex cases

Diabetic foot care

Monitoring and management to help protect foot health and reduce the risk of complications associated with diabetes.

When to see a podiatrist

You may wish to arrange a podiatry appointment if you notice ongoing discomfort or changes affecting your feet.

Situations where support may be helpful include:

  • Persistent foot pain or tenderness

  • Thickened or ingrown toenails

  • Hard skin, corns or calluses

  • Changes in how you walk or stand

  • Foot concerns linked to diabetes

  • Pain in the heel or ball of the foot

  • Signs of conditions such as bunions or hammer toes

  • Verrucas or other skin changes

Early care can make symptoms easier to manage and help maintain long-term foot health.

If you’re considering podiatry, your GP can help guide your decision. You can also contact our team to discuss your symptoms and next steps.
