Diagnostic imaging

Getting an accurate diagnosis is the first step towards understanding your health and planning the right care. At Affidea, we combine advanced imaging technology with expert clinical interpretation and compassionate support to help you get reliable answers

Getting clear answers about your health starts with the right diagnosis. At Affidea, we use advanced imaging technology alongside expert clinical care and a supportive, compassionate approach - so you can feel confident and informed every step of the way.

What are diagnostic imaging?

Diagnostic imaging are medical tests that create detailed images of organs, bones and tissues inside your body. They help doctors detect, diagnose and monitor many health conditions.

You may be referred for a scan if you have new symptoms or injury, need monitoring for an existing condition or are attending routine screening.

Our experienced radiographers perform your scan, and specialist radiologists carefully review and interpret the results. Your report is then shared with your referring clinician, so you can move forward with clear guidance.

We know that having a scan can feel unfamiliar. Our team will explain each step, answer your questions and make sure you feel supported and comfortable during your visit.

What to expect when booking your scan with Affidea

We want you to feel prepared and reassured before your appointment. With fast access to appointments, flexible booking and prompt results, our private imaging service is designed to give you clarity without long waits.

Before your scan, you may receive specific preparation instructions. For example, you might be asked to:

  • Avoid food for a few hours

  • Drink water before your scan or

  • Remove metal objects such as jewellery

  • Wear loose-fitting, comfortable clothing

If preparation is needed, we’ll send you clear, easy-to-follow guidance in advance.

Please let us know in advance if you:

  • Are pregnant or think you might be pregnant

  • Have any allergies (including to a contrast dye used in some scans)

  • Have kidney problems or any other significant medical condition

  • Have a pacemaker, implant or metal inside your body

  • Are anxious or claustrophobic

If you feel anxious about enclosed spaces, please tell us. We’ll take time to talk you through what to expect and support you throughout your visit.

When you arrive, our team will welcome you and confirm your details. A radiographer will explain the procedure and answer any questions before the scan begins. Most scans take between 15 and 60 minutes, depending on the type of imaging.

After your scan, you can usually return to normal activities straight away. Your images will be reviewed by a specialist radiologist within 48 hours and sent to your referring clinician, who will discuss the findings and next steps with you.

Diagnostic imaging we offer

We offer a wide range of imaging services using specialist, high-quality equipment, designed to help doctors get clearer insights into your health.

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)

MRI uses a strong magnetic field and radio waves to create highly detailed images of soft tissues, such as the brain, spine, joints and internal organs. MRI machines offer radiation-free imaging.

MRI is often used to investigate back pain, joint injuries, neurological symptoms and many other conditions. During your scan, you’ll lie on a comfortable table that moves into the scanner. The test is painless, though the machine can be noisy. You will rest on a comfortable table that moves into the scanner. The machine can be noisy, but we’ll provide ear protection and support you throughout.

Computed tomography (CT)

CT uses low doses of X-rays to produce detailed cross-sectional images of the body. It’s particularly helpful for assessing the chest, abdomen, pelvis and blood vessels.

CT scans are quick and are often used in urgent situations or when detailed images are needed quickly. In some cases, you may receive a contrast dye to help improve image clarity. If this is needed, we’ll explain what to expect beforehand.

Ultrasound

Ultrasound uses sound waves to create real-time images of organs and soft tissues. It’s commonly used for pregnancy monitoring, liver, kidney and thyroid assessment, as well as muscle evaluation.

Ultrasound is safe and painless. A small handheld probe is gently moved over your skin with a clear gel to help produce images.

X-ray

X-rays are one of the fastest and most commonly used imaging tests. They’re quick and effective for examining bones, chest conditions and certain injuries.

The amount of radiation used is low. Our team always follows strict safety standards to help protect your health while delivering accurate diagnostic images.

Dual x-ray absorptiometry (DEXA)

A DEXA scan measures bone density and helps assess the risk of osteoporosis, a condition that weakens bones and increases the chance of fractures.

The scan is quick and involves very low radiation exposure. It’s often recommended for people with risk factors for bone thinning, it is also advised for perimenopausal women and people with a family history of osteoporosis.

When to access diagnostic imaging

You may benefit from diagnostic imaging if:

  • You have symptoms that require further investigation

  • Your clinician wants to monitor an existing health condition

  • You’ve been referred for routine screening

  • You’ve experienced an injury

Early and accurate imaging can provide reassurance or help guide timely treatment. If you’re unsure whether you need a scan, speak to your GP or specialist. We aim to offer appointments within days, with results reviewed and shared quickly so you can move forward without delay.

Booking your scan is simple. You can contact our team directly or arrange an appointment through your GP or specialist.

Our team will guide you through the process, including any preparation you may need, and help you find an appointment time that works for you.

At Affidea, our specialists focus on clinical accuracy while making sure you feel informed and supported at every step.
