MRI Scans
Getting clear answers about your health starts with the right diagnosis. At Affidea, our MRI service combines advanced imaging technology with expert clinical interpretation and a supportive, patient-first approach, so you can feel confident and informed every step of the way.
What is an MRI scan?
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is a diagnostic scan that uses a strong magnetic field and radio waves to create highly detailed images of the inside of your body.
Unlike some other imaging methods, MRI does not use radiation. It is particularly effective for imaging soft tissues, including the brain, spine, joints, muscles and internal organs.
MRI scans are commonly used to investigate:
Back and neck pain
Joint injuries and sports-related conditions
Neurological symptoms such as headaches or nerve issues
Soft tissue injuries
Internal organ conditions
Your scan will be carried out by an experienced radiographer, with results reviewed by a specialist radiologist to ensure accurate diagnosis and clear next steps.
What to expect during your MRI scan
We understand that having a scan can feel unfamiliar, so our team will guide you through each step of the process.
During your MRI scan:
You will lie on a comfortable, flat table
The table will move into the MRI scanner
The scan is painless, but the machine can be noisy
You will be given ear protection and support throughout
Most MRI scans take between 15 and 60 minutes, depending on the area being examined.
If you feel anxious or claustrophobic, please let us know in advance. Our team will take the time to support you and make the experience as comfortable as possible.
Preparing for your MRI scan
Before your appointment, you may be given simple instructions to follow. These may include:
Removing metal objects such as jewellery
Wearing loose, comfortable clothing
Avoiding food for a short period (if required)
It’s important to tell us in advance if you:
Are pregnant or think you might be
Have a pacemaker, implant or any metal in your body
Have any medical conditions or concerns
We will provide clear, easy-to-follow guidance ahead of your appointment so you feel fully prepared.
After your scan
Once your MRI scan is complete, you can usually return to your normal activities straight away.
Your images will be reviewed by a specialist radiologist within 48 hours and sent to your referring clinician. They will then discuss the results with you and advise on any next steps.
